Michael Eather

Bhurkunda, India. Educationalist.

From his very first years in India Michael was involved in educating the poorest children in the poorest part of India. Beginning with the Primary Teacher Education College at Sitagarha, Michael went on to be the principal of several high schools, but his most important contribution has been in the development of teaching methods and text books that take into account the cultural and intellectual traits of the local tribal population. He was much in demand for courses on the teaching of Maths and English. Michael died suddenly in India on 28 February 2012.
