The Indian Bazaar - 20 September 2008
The Jesuit Mission Indian Bazaar will be held in Sydney in the grounds of St Ignatius College Riverview on Saturday September 20th. Funds raised from the Bazaar and other Sydney events are the basis of the Thanksgiving Mass and Cheque Presentation in November. In 2007, Fr Mark Raper, Provincial, was on hand to celebrate Mass and receive a rather large cheque.
"The Bazaar" is co-ordinated by an Executive Committee of NSW Jesuit Mission Friends. The main policy for the running of the Bazaar is that every stall and attraction donates 100% of its profit for the work of Jesuit Mission (except for the few stalls and attractions that are hired out for the day). "The Bazaar" alone consistently contributes over $100,000 each year for vital work in the developing world.
Among others directly involved in the running of the Indian Bazaar are members of a number of school communities including St Aloysius College, St Ignatius College and the Loyola Campus of Christ Catholic College at Mt Druitt. Also involved are members of many parish communites including St Mary's North Sydney, St Francis Xavier's Lavender Bay, Our Lady Star of the Sea Kirribilli, St Canice's Elizabeth Bay and St Philip Neri Northbridge. All contribute to the success of "The Bazaar" and other functions. Alumni and past parents associated with Jesuit schools in Australia and beyond work generously for the success of these functions. St Ignatius College generously hosts "The Bazaar" at Riverview.

If you are 'spring cleaning' at any time of the year and have surplus 'bric-a-brac' - click here for a solution for some of those items still in good condition.
Perhaps the most inspiring thing about fundraising for Jesuit Mission and JRS is that so many people from so many different communities come together each year to work with complete altruism for the benefit of people in far away lands whom they will never meet. In such a practical and fun way, these functions highlight the interconnectedness of all God's children. Through financial support and through spiritual and human solidarity, all can share in the international mission of the Society of Jesus, building bridges across religious, cultural and social divides.
