As the Mission Director I am privileged to see first hand the wonderful work being done by Jesuit Mission and to convey to all of our overseas workers the encouragement and support of thousands of friends. In addition to our work in India we are also working in a number of other countries including Cambodia and East Timor, two of the poorest countries in the world, both of them ravaged by years of war. Emergency appeal for Pakistani flood victims
Jesuit Mission has launched an emergency appeal for the victims of the recent floods in Pakistan. Up to 20 million people are now believed to be homeless as a result of the disaster, and 1,600 people have died. Jesuit Mission will send all proceeds of the appeal to Jesuits working on the ground in Pakistan. A record 108 golfers turned out at the Jesuit Mission Golf Day in Melbourne on 19 March to help raise funds to build a school in Cambodia.It was the largest crowd ever for the annual event, held for the third time this year at Greenacres Golf Course in Kew. Read more...
Jesuit Mission has launched an appeal for assistance for victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti and would be grateful for your support. The Jesuits have a number of ministries in Haiti and we are fully mobilised in the relief effort which will be co-ordinated through Jesuit Refugee Service Dominican Repulic. Jesuits in Haiti are part of the French Canadian Province of the Jesuits.
Jesuits in Haiti were spared the worst consequences of the earthquake that has killed up to 200,000 people. One Jesuit was injured in the earthquake but none were killed. One of our buildings was destroyed and others suffered some damage. Generally we are in a good position to help the masses of suffering people around us.
Thank you for your compassion and generosity for the suffering people of Haiti.
Volunteer honour
Jesuit Mission supporter and Xavier College Old Boy Dr Terence Horgan was recognised for his service to the community during the recent Australia Day honours.
Dr Horgan, from St Ives in Sydney, was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for his efforts in raising money for Jesuit Mission through the Old Xaverian's Association.
Interviewed this week in the North Shore Times, Dr Horgan said he is part of a team of ex-Xavier students who work together to raise money for the Jesuits.
'It's really just like a social club that helps others,' said Dr Horgan.
The group's annual car raffle is drawn at the Indian Bazaar at Riverview in Sydney. Last year, the raffle raised $45,000 for Jesuit Mission.

The Gift Catalogue describes how the gifts are applied in Health, Education and Rural Development programs. Three levels of gifts in each program explain typical uses for each donation.
